American Singles is a good site to find someone, but sometimes it just doesn't work out no matter how good the service is, we are, after all, only human.

When I was going to school in New York I found myself thinking that I could really use some help in finding someone to help fill some of my spare time. It's not that I have anything against dating people my own age or anything, but I just didn't think that it would help my studies if I started dating someone on campus. I decided that I needed to find a way to meet someone in a way that would not connect them directly to either the school, or my friends at school, so that I could maintain my concentration on my studies while attending classes. What I really didn't want was to end up messing up my studies and make a decision that could hurt my chosen future career of becoming a teacher. I needed to get my masters, and I could not afford risking any credits for anything.

I was curious, and I figured that I could set up a profile on an online dating site and see what happened. I wasn't really as committed to finding a life-mate as I was to completing Cum Laude, but I really was starting to feel alone even when I was surrounded by my friends. When you are overly ambitious, you will forsake anything, even love. “Matthew” sent me a flirt on American Singles and I was passively interested. We communicated off and on via email, he was very attractive, but he was in Connecticut a couple of hours from where I was staying, and I didn't really see any sense in pushing it. I still liked talking to him though, and he wasn't hard on the eyes, so I figured that maybe we could meet up and I'd see if he was really anything worth investing in.

He was amazing, he was everything that I wanted in a man, or at least I thought so, but in hindsight I could have fooled myself into thinking that anyone that spoke English and wore men's clothing was the man to be had at the time. I had not been on a date in a couple of years, at least not a serious one, and he was very mature and easy to talk to. I told him that it was a great meeting and that I'd love to see him again, and he seemed equally enthusiastic. We decided to meet two weeks later on the weekend on campus and he would spend the day with me, which was another smashing success, and the kissing wasn't all that bad either.

We had a few other encounters where we had a nice time doing something simple, like dinner and a park concert, or a drive out to the beach, but eventually the new wore off. It was kind of a flash in the pan considering there were probably less than a dozen meetings altogethers, but he wanted someone that was looking for a real relationship, not to play pretend on weekends away from the campus. It hurts to be left, no matter how much you deserve it, but I told him upfront that I wanted a relationship that wouldn't interfere with my studies, so we decided just to keep in touch. He may have been the best thing that has happened to me so far, but I have landed my dream job and am very happy with my achievements and he has since married. I have reactivated my profile in hopes of finding another “Matthew.”
There are 3 kinds of people in this world - those who are born great, those who achieve greatness and those who have greatness thrust upon them when they are sleeping.... Fortunately or Unfortunately I belong to the third category!!! :)
