Let’s be clear. We’re not talking about little kids, we’re talking about 20-something girls that date older men, and why these older men date them.

If you look at the media you see it everywhere. Michael Douglas and Katherine Zeta Jones, Clint and Dina Eastwood, Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn, and the list doesn’t end there. But we don’t need to look at the media, just look at your own family. I guarantee that at least one male relative has at least 10 years on his girlfriend/wife.

IS IT NORMAL

An older man dating a younger woman is no longer taboo, if it ever really was. It’s normal—expected among the rich and famous, longed for by the working Joe. From the outside it seems obvious why an older man would go for a younger woman: sex, right? What other possible reason could there be? According to the men who date younger women there’s a lot more to it than just sex.

YOUTH IS CONTAGEOUS

Many men talk about feeling “electrified” by dating younger women. Their youth and energy reignite a fire inside of these men, making them feel more alive, more capable. And this isn’t just about sex, at least that’s what they say.

Let’s take a look at a typical man in his forties that’s divorced: he has a car payment, a job he’s been working at unenthusiastically for years, maybe a child support payment in there, too—he’s washed up. The world is a prison, hope is a bad word.

Younger women aren’t jaded and over-worked. They are hopeful, positive, and excited about life. A young, bright girl who sees the world in a different light can do a lot to change a man. Our 40 year old now has someone to talk to that shares positive feelings and expectations, helping him to see his own life in better terms, and as a result his quality of life is improved. Maybe he starts running again or going to the gym—life isn’t almost over anymore, it’s just beginning.

MEN LIKE TO FEEL LIKE MEN

Being able to take care of our lady always makes us feel manly. When we can provide for her, guide her, and protect her, that instinctual need to be an alpha male is fulfilled. Men that date younger women are able to be the stable rock, the more knowledgeable and financially secure partner. In today’s world where women are fiercely independent and make equal to or more than their spouses, it can sometimes be hard for men to fulfill this need.

The girls that seek older men tend to want a manly man of the nature described. It’s really basic math: Men that want to provide and feel manly find women that want their man to be that way.

THINGS SORT THEMSELVES OUT

Everyone has a strong opinion about older men dating young girls, but in the end, those that are ok with it are the ones doing it. If a young girl prefers and older man and an older man the young girl, then they’ll find each other. If they don’t, they won’t. Nature is good in that way: it let’s the natural happen naturally.
